review 1: The connection between the MCs and their relationship? 4 starsThe surrounding story? 2 starsAverage for overall rating? 3 starsI really did enjoy the interactions between Alex & Drew. The two of them on their own and their relationship - those were some real high points in this story. I found myself rooting for them and hoping they would all work out.The background behind all of that, though, was really jarring. Yes, this story contains difficult subject matter. But it seems just sort of 'there' in the story. The characters don't really deal with it. When it call comes out in the open, there are tears from some, but Alex himself just seems nonchalant. He just says what happened, shrugs if off, and then is instantly over most of it? I like dynamic characters but the... more changes he goes through in terms of his self-esteem and the processing of what he's dealt with just doesn't seem to ring true.In the end, the book is enjoyable. And I'd probably recommend it to people who can handle the content. And it is possible to look past those other things to focus on the romantic relationship in the story and revel in the love and sweetness.Content warnings: rape, physical abuse, violence, child abuse, neglect, long-term abuse, verbal abuse, bullying
review 2: If I could give ths this book more stars I would .Simply it was an amzing rollercoaster of emotions for me. It had me in tears numerous times. for the good and for the bad times suffered by these two wonderul souls . Justin thannkyou so much for this superb tale of a mans journey from utter despair to finding his sanctuary in the arms of an equally wonderful supportive partner. This is the story of Alex, a timid abused country boy who meets Drew a city boy with a heart of gold.It deleves into the mind of Alex trying to cope with his abuse and finding his way in the world of recovery and love. Drew is amazingly strong and gentle, the glue that keeps alex together.I loved both characters so much , and hey I knew I loved drew but a man who dunks his tim tams, words cannot express that little tid bit.I truley hope we see more of Alex and Drew purhaps even a story of Beau,fingers crossed s*... finally do yourself a favour and be swept away with the beautiful words justin has put to paper. It will move you , stir you up and sweep you away into what life is all about. Moving forward trusting others and finally finding yourself.Lets hope all the Alex:s out there find their Drew and help them to step into the light less
