review 1: This story is set in historical France, where homosexuality was a crime. Then we have status’ and reputations at stake. So, Christophe shouldn’t fall for a man, but also regards of his status. Since he is of noble birth, society assumes/sees that he should marry a women of the same status. He doesn’t want either. He wants his tutor, Yves. Yves was hired by his father to be his companion and his teacher. Yves isn’t of the same social status of Christophe, and he is a man. But that doesn’t stop Christophe from wanting him. Especially, when Yves feels the same attraction. Yves fights against his feelings. He knows it is seen as wrong in society’s eyes. He isn’t the best pick for Christophe, even if homosexuality wasn’t illegal. He was hired to work ... morewith Christophe, not be his lover. Though he fights against it, he can’t help but have feelings for his pupil. I wondered how they would be able to have a happy ending, but they author was able to pull it off. I personally, found it hard to follow. More because of the the writing style and certain words used(because it was historical), but overall, it was decent story.
review 2: So you know what my read shelf lacks? Historical romance. Normally I can't get into historical, it's just one of those genres that isn't for me. But this story? This was excellent. I loved the sexual chemistry between Yves and Christophe from their first moment together on page. The setting was rich, the characters were compelling, and I especially enjoyed the masquerade ball where the details in the descriptions were beautiful. And the ending, that hopeful, sweet ending, was the perfect way to end this story. I'm certainly glad I gave this a try.My thanks to the author for their time and participation in the loves landscapes event less
