review 1: It seems like I’m saying this way too often, but it’s incredibly difficult for me to review this book. The very beginning, as well as the blurb, caught my attention and I didn’t want to stop reading. Both the MCs were well developed characters and I liked the way we got to see their initial meeting but jumped into an established relationship. There was huge potential with the storyline about the Romero family and especially Hennessy was a character I was sure was going to play a big part later on. Up until about 60% I absolutely was in love with the story and was so certain that this would be one for my favorites shelf. I even started to compose a review in my head telling how much I adored the book. Then we got to the climax point of the story, where Gi is actually ... moresent to kill Logan. So much potential, right? What scenes you could have about the couple getting over this and rebuilding their trust. Instead there was Gi throwing a pity party by himself for himself and thinking very deeply on the subject of honor, that he at least possessed, and how disgusted he was by guys who beat their wives. Seriously? Okay, so he did concede that he was a drug dealer and a killer who probably didn’t have much room to talk, but I was irked by the whole woe-is-me attitude. I’ve always loved reading about bad boys, but I need for the writer to handle them with great care. I need my bad boys being aware of their flaws and crimes and wanting to move on and make a change for the better, without forgetting the furt they’ve caused. In the very beginning this description fit Gi very well, but the latter part showed him, in my opinion, weak. The other thing that got to me was how Logan bought into Wendy’s ‘he saved you’ speech. Gi didn’t actually so much save Logan but simply spared his life. And while torturing/executing the random guy whose name i can’t remember Gi went on in his head about how anyone could leave the life if they wanted. Then why the hell was it impossible for him?The last thing that really dropped my rating was the ending. I liked Gabriel and was happy to see him recover (though I did find it rather odd that Gi referred to him as Angel as well) but the fact remained that Gi never willingly left his old life, he was forced out. And I’m supposed to believe that big bad Miguel simply let both him and Logan walk away? Like sending Logan to Texas was sending him to the Moon, what the hell? If I were a gangster, I’d have killed him. Usually I stay out of editing errors and the like for obvious reasons, but at times I struggled to comprehend what was written, because the structure of the sentences was so odd. Also, within the year Logan lost an inch of his height while Gi gained two. All that being said, the first half of the book was insanely good. There was good build up and the author knew how to create the atmosphere. All of the supporting characters were promising not to mention the whole premise of the book. Worth four stars. I think there is so much potential in Gangster Land that I can’t help but hope the author would take it and start expanding it. Hennessy, Cole and the Romero situation all practically scream suspense and intrigue and Logan and Gi were so great I feel they could easily carry a book twice Gangster Country’s length. So four stars for the addictive start and one and a half for the rushed ending make this a three star read for me.
review 2: It's probably more like 3.5 stars but I bumped it up for a couple reasons. The first being that this book takes a completely different path. Logan and Gianni meet and then the book immediately jumps to a year later. They've been together the entire time and the reader isn't privy to any of it. It was unique and I really like that. The second thing was another departure from the norm but much less in your face. It's the lack of condoms. Condoms seem to have become a cardinal rule of MM romance. I cannot remember the last book I read where they weren't used or their lack of use wasn't being justified by STD testing or virginity. They didn't need to be harped upon, and they weren't. less

This was a pretty great story! Lots of intrigue with a decent amount of hot smutty man sex!
