review 1: I was very impressed with this book. I thought it was an excellent history book that provides a lot of context. It takes the story of a family and puts the family in the context of history, and puts black history in a broader context of American history. It has solid history, and is incredibly readable and relatable. The book also has beautiful illustrations. They are extremely rich and have a beautiful, glowing quality that I love. They are also very realistic, which makes them perfect for a book about history. Incredible book - I'm glad I got a chance to read it!
