review 1: Okay, it's been quite a while since I've read this book, but I figured I'd review it anyway.First off, I obviously enjoyed it. Granted, I find so many other books out there enjoyable, and I am usually not picky when it comes to books. Sure, I may get frustrated with the characters sometimes (*cough*cough* Sydney Sage *cough* Golden Lily *cough*cough*), but it's not a bad thing, because it means characters are flawed. Which is why I don't get why some people complain about some of the flaws characters have, because if the characters weren't so flawed, then they would be Mary Sues, and besides the fact that it's completely unrealistic, wouldn't that be boring?Anyway, as I said before, I honestly enjoyed the book. It was intriguing from the start, and I got hooked pretty quic... morekly. I felt pretty sorry for Michael when things got messy-- first he had to leave home, and then when he comes back for just a little visit, he ends up leading the bad guys straight to his house, and if it weren't bad enough that he was captured, then they set his house on fire and killed his mother! And on top of all that, he is believed to be a teenage terrorist who killed his own family. I think he handled the situation much better than I would have, that's for sure.It was enjoyable, it was action packed, it was nail-biting (or would be, if I ever bit my nails), and overall, a great read. Well done, Kaleb. I salute you.The one other thing I want to say is that I was right about quite a few things, even when I didn't want to be right. Not that it made it any less of a good book. Still, when I was reading the scene where they were retrieving the blade, I kept hoping that somehow it'll be all right, and there'd be no trouble, but I also knew that in books, something like that is always too good to be true. And of course, the other Guardians are there, they take the blade from Michael, and they take Thad with them.Although there were some good things I was right about, like the fact that his sister was still alive. I was glad for that. Michael had enough shit to deal with already. Finally, if I could tell Michael anything, I would tell him not to hate himself too much for not considering that they were able to track him easily, and that's why they knew where the blade was. Because I totally didn't consider it at all, either.
review 2: I just couldn't finish it after 50%. Nothing was interesting me, and Michael's constant complaining started to irk me more and more as we went on. The plot was so boring, there was practically no world-building, and I just couldn't get through it. I don't remember anything from the book when I last put it down. I stopped it when I got bored to read a different book, and then that book turned into two, then three, and soon I'd been putting this away for a month. A month is when I draw the line, and if I don't feel motivated to read it and finish it, then I know that I'm never going to finish it.While I can see what other people might have liked about it, I thought Michael was whiny, the plot went nowhere and was way too predictable, and the supporting characters irked me too. less
