review 1: I was fairly disappointed with this manga because I had hopes, despite it's straight forward plotline about a girl with supernatural powers and how she end up with an oversexed, yet handsome protector, that it would at least be intriguing. I know that there are fans of this series, but I am not one of them. The two main characters are in a disturbing relationship to say the least. The heroine does not seem to have a personality, she's just supposed to be that main character that is seen as weird and helpless that falls down a lot. And don't even get me started on the "hero". He is a demon and taking that into consideration I know that he is technically supposed to be evil, but the way that he treats the girl like his own personal blood-flavored popsicle is kind of ... moresick!
review 2: I've never seen or heard of this series before, but I found it when I went to the library today before work. After giving away my manga collection due to moving, I had a sudden craving for reading manga again. It's been too long since I've read a series, and I've only completed one so far.But when I went to the library and saw their manga selection, my craving just intensified. They had a few series's that I knew and used to have, but none of the volumes I needed to continue reading. To be completely honest, the reason I picked up Black Bird today was because I wondered if it was anything like Black Cat (of course, I forgot that Black Cat was by Kentaro Yabuki). The summary intrigued me, and the cover artwork drew me in.I love this storyline. I love the mythology (granted, I've always been a sucker for Japanese and Chinese mythology). The fast pacing is wonderful (also one of many reasons why I love reading manga). I love the artwork. I love the humour, which I wasn't expecting at all.Misao is adorable, if a little dim sometimes. I like long-haired Kyo better than short-haired Kyo, though. It gives him a more... I don't know. A softer look, I guess. I hope Kuzunoha makes more appearances in future volumes. He's an interesting one. less
