review 1: After stopping a serial killer and solving the Ritchie Rich Rapist case, police are stunned to find that there is a human trafficking ring in town. Five girls have disappeared from the prison where they were being held. Other girls were found starved, tortured and murdered. Detective Luke Papadolpoulos is leading the team searching for the girls. Susannah Vartanian came to town to give evidence on the rapists, but gets caught up in the investigation. Soon her life is threatened and only Luke and his team stand between her and certain death.This is the third book in the Vartanian series. If you haven't read the previous books, don't start with this one. I think a person would be lost if they didn't read the previous book in the series. This book starts with the last couple ... morechapters of the previous book, just told from a different point-of-view. The story is good with lots of twists and turns. My biggest problem is there are so many characters, it is very hard to keep track of everyone. Sometimes it felt like the villains outnumbered the good guys. My rating: 4 Stars.
review 2: This book and the last were so closely related it is almost like they should have been one. As bad as things seemed in Dutton in the last book, they were worse in this one. I can't believe that so much evil could be in one town and that someone could survive when all that evil was coming after them. Susannah went through the wringer in this one, past and present. There were times I wondered how she could be so sane. I thought that Susannah made a brave choice by going back home, she knew what she would face, knew what she would have to admit to the world, and knew her life would never be the same again. Turns out all that was true, but it came true in more ways that Susannah could ever imagine. I was glad that Susanna had Luke around, with all the horrible things in her life, she needed something good. Luke was so good with Susannah, took things slow, showed her that what she wanted and needed wasn't wrong, just was.I was glad that Susannah now has the option for a true HEA in her life, no more hiding. less
