review 1: I think I found a new author (new for me at least) to like. Though the story took a bit slow to build up even if the events happened in a few days, I patiently read knowing clues will be in the details. My first suspect turned out to be not the perpetrator but I guess it was just better it wasn't he. Doing a gruesome string of crimes out or revenge over something tragic that happened twenty-one years ago must have taken so much rage, angst and hatred.
review 2: I love a good romantic suspense, and Karen Rose really is one of the best. I’ve read the first four of her romantic suspense series, and hadn’t gone back to get the others yet, but the blurb on this one appealed so I jumped right ahead skipping about 10 books! Not to worry, this is the start of her
... more Baltimore series and you don’t have to have read any previous books to go into this one and the next two out so far. She has on-numbered all her books, but this one is actually the start of new series, very little connection to the previous books, just the odd character who has no bearing on these Baltimore stories. It skips along at a rapid rate and has little twists and turns along the way. I couldn’t put it down and consider this by far the best of Rose’s books that I’ve read so far. I really liked the other ones, but I loved this one. I never really put a lot of effort into trying to figure out who the villain is in any suspense books that I read as I’m easily pleased and am happy just to go with the flow and get a lovely surprise at the end, but I really didn’t even have an inkling who the baddie was till I was supposed to find out, and I love that in a suspense author. There’s nothing worse than picking the villain right off the bat, especially when you're not even trying.I’m totally hooked on this Baltimore series and am going to (need to) move to the next ones right away. Luckily for me there’s a couple already out and a new one also coming soon. I really want to read about the couples in the next books. Once I finished this series up to date, I’m definitely going back to the 10 books I’ve skipped as I think this writer has improved along the way and I am looking forward to more of her work. She really seems to have found her rhythm. less
