review 1: I was interested to read this novel since the author has the same religious beliefs as I do. I was bugged by a few part. Especially when Christ was in the form of a dog in this book. It was just too weird for me. I also did not like the Pegwen Flype character and his evil nature made me want to stop reading the story. The whole secret speakers idea just kind of bothered me because it felt like it only needed to be stated a few times that they were telling the story...not at the start of every chapter. There was also a few parts that needed better editing and didn't make much sense to me. I also felt like it was very close to the Wizard of Oz at some parts. I really liked the beginning of the story until Fair set out on her journey and her friends turned into animal... mores and they aided her on her journey. It just seemed kind of childish to me. I liked some parts and some I didn't really care for. All in all it wasn't a great read for me.
review 2: Not at all what I expected. I liked the characters and I thought the allegory was interesting. There were a few times that the story was too rigid in trying to keep with spiritual teachings, and there were a couple of times I felt quite uncomfortable with the direct parallels. I did get a bit aggravated that everything had names that didn't make sense to me. All of the names of people and places and other things, like "shoomin" as a time period, distracted and detracted from the story. We are never told what made Fair different or special or why she was so essential to finding Selador's gate, which was frustrating. Still, those who enjoy allegories will probably be interested and intrigued. The part that made me most uncomfortable was Sauveren's bit in the garden. If this had been less of a direct parallel, I think I would have felt more comfortable with the overall story. less

Karey has created a beautiful allegory of the power of our Savior in our life. Beautiful story

It was an amazing book. I loved the way that they used a dog as a hero, but in a refined way.
