review 1: Book about a producer who wants to make an independent film and an actress who is trying to break into the business.Selena is a producer. She has integrety, something not found in Hollywood. She signs on a popular actor to play the lead in her independent movie, Madrid. Her ex girlfriend, Jennifer, wants the role of leading lady. Selena reluctantantly choses her despite Jennifer's bad treatment of her in the past as she feels she is best for the part.Enter Gail Wells, a young wannabe actress, not beautiful but with an interesting face who is new to the Hollywood scene. She lands a gig now and then in a commercials but must work as a waitress to pay the bills. She auditions as the nutty girlfriend of the main character in Madrid and gets the part. Film location in Madrid ta... moreke the crew and actors to that fabulous city. Selena is interested in Gail and vice versa, but Selena will not act on her attraction due to integrity and not wanting negative publicity to surround the movie or Gail. Of course, Jennifer, Selena's ex tries to throw a wrench in the works. It is obvious that Kallmaker did her homework on the workings behind the scenes in Hollywood. I like the characters and thought they were well written. What stopped me from giving this book five stars is that the editing was poor. There were run on sentences and I had to go back over them to get the gist of the meaning. I'm not sure what happened as most of the books I read by Kallmaker do not have editing problems.
review 2: Another winner from Karin Kallmaker!!This time we see heartbroken Selena fall for rising star Gail while producing a movie that her ex gf is starring in... did I mention the ex is a gossip mongers dream and had crossed Selena by spreading lies about their relationship... Trying to keep her distance Selena can't help being intrigued by Gail, their first meeting didn't go well as waitress Gail spilled a plate of food on her lap. Selena at first thought she did it to get noticed but soon realized that she was nothing like the hated ex and had to decide if she was willing to put herself out there again risking her reputation and career let alone her heart...will she be another stepping stone for another heartless wannabe or will this time be for ever... less

This book was ok. It's a lesbian love story, of sorts, and is kind of elementary but fun....

The characters spent more time apart then together and their romance just didn't work for me.
