review 1: Light and enjoyable! Comparing this book to a Jane Austen novel was a little too much praise, but still a very enjoyable book! The plot was believable, the characters easy to get into, and the dialogue interesting. It could have used at least another 100 pages to go into more detail to help place the reader in the era and develop the plot more. The romance and the building of a relationship with the children felt a little rushed, something that could easily have been fixed with a few more chapters with interaction between the main characters. It's understood that most regency readers are looking for a light romance that doesn't take a lot of time or deep thought to enjoy but if Ms Darcy took the time to write a longer more in depth novel, sparing none of the "mundane" deta... moreils regency readers like to skip over for the "juicier" parts, she would have a novel worthy to compared Ms. Austen!
review 2: This was a hard book for me to rate and in some way, enjoy. Cara is an American heiress married by proxy to an English lord after the death of her father. With her mother dead and no other relatives in America, her grandmother in England sees this as the best future for the young (19) girl. I liked Cara and her spitfire personality, and I liked her interactions with the two young wards of her husband. I didn't like her husband at all. He was somewhat cold, callous and a man on the prowl. We're constantly reminded that he hasn't seen his bride yet, so feels it's "ok" to sample the goods before she arrives, including a flirtation with the young Governess (Cara). Even after he puts the moves on Cara and it hurts her feelings tremendously, she forgives him - something I couldn't do. Regardless of the fact that he didn't know it was her, he DID know he was married, proxy or not. I can't abide cheating in a romance, no matter how you play it, and this wasn't plotted out well nor resolved well.A generous 2 stars less

The incessant head-hopping ruined this intriguing premise. Only made it halfway through chapter 2.
