review 1: Awwwwwwwwww!!! Poor Ayane!!!!!!!! And dang!! The drama between Ryu and Chizu!!And of course, don't forget the awkwardness of Kazehaya. This volume was a little bit more exciting than the last few, but I wish Shiina-sensei's editors weren't obnoxious and making her drag out this series. I love it, but it's on a plateau that at this point, it's really just my love of the characters that is keeping me interested. The storyline itself is getting boring and predictable. It's obnoxious when publishers and editors and all others involved push authors to keep going when the author has plans to end something. Isn't it their story? Shouldn't they be able to decide? Ugh! Having said that, I am going to keep reading the series. I do really love the characters and feel attached to them... more. The next volume comes out on my birthday here in the States! Though I doubt the library will have it then. But onward. I just hope they don't make Shiina-sensei keep dragging this on and on when she said in a sidebar in this volume that the story was coming to the emotional end but then the editor or whoever told her there is more story to develop. Sigh. That should be Shiina-sensei's choice (okay okay!! I swear I'll stop complaining about it now! :-p )
review 2: The last few volumes of this series have really stalled for me, but I wasn't ready to give up on this series just yet. As much as I love the central characters of the story - Sawako and Kazehaya - I've come to love their friends perhaps even more. And, thankfully and wonderfully, this volume turns the focus more on them.I've lost interest in Sawako's and Kazehaya's romance. I don't mind that they're awkward and unsure, I'm just tired of pages upon pages dragging out a scene that doesn't need that much space, space that could be put to better use. Chapter 58 in the center of the volume has the perfect example of this. I know the mangaka is trying to create the atmosphere and the tension between the characters, but it's overkill. This could have been told in half the pages. Kind of like the last few volumes. Maybe this is just personal preference, but this dragging out drives me crazy. That rant over, the volume does get to the point (thankfully) with Sawako's best friends Ayane and Chizuru. Ayane has seemingly had more experience in matters of love compared to her friends. But, her ability to easily move in and out of relationships with different boyfriends really conveys the opposite. Love isn't as simple a matter of acquiring a boyfriend. Ayane's lack of feelings is nicely juxtaposed with Sawako's blossoming romance.Chizuru is about as dense as a girl can be, but maybe it's hard to realize it when your childhood best friend is in love with you. She is one lucky girl to have someone has patient as Ryu. Ryu is just cool. He's one of my favorites because he really is so well developed. He doesn't say much, but you know exactly where he's coming from. I love characters like that. Kimi ni Todoke has found its feet again (or rather, I'm glad it's moving along again instead of getting mired down in awkward stumbling limps) and I like the direction it's going. Kento, I'm rooting for you! less
