review 1: Meh. I was surprised at the end. The book made you think someone else had killed Amelia so it was nice that I couldn't predict the ending. The main female character really started to annoy me. Her boyfriend purposefully hurts her by having sex then breaking up with her before she can do it when she leaves the small town to fulfill her big college dreams. Then she gets back together with him after he just apologizes?! No way! Then she starts to question leaving the town too!? Ugh! Get out of there!
review 2: Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone was a book I decided to take a chance on after stumbling upon it on the Chapters/Indigo website and taking a look at a couple reviews here. I'm very glad I did. Although teen fiction is my genre of choice, I'm VERY discerning. ... more This was a beautifully written book with surprising depth and inner dialogue from the main character that echoed many of my own thoughts. I found myself recognizing Rebecca's fear of making plans, paranoid they won't happen and as if something terrible is in store for me and there's no point. There was some repetitive descriptions, as pointed out in a review here, I do believe the author did this on purpose. Rebecca's thoughts are winding and frenzied, she really needs to get out of the town she's in and situations around her are gnawing at her sanity and I feel the author captured this really well. I had a feeling of what the ending was going to be as the book's close drew nearer, though I don't feel it was predictable. This was not a book I had to force myself to read or who's author I had to try to convince myself had talent. It's very obvious. less
