My Two Must-See Movies of 2017

Wonderstruck

Brian Selznick is my favourite author, and his first book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, was adapted into Hugo, one of my absolute favourite movies. So it’s no surprise that I’m eagerly awaiting the adaptation of his second novel, Wonderstruck. While I am still super nervous that the movie will mess up the book as happens all too often with adaptations, so far it seems that everything has been done perfectly. Selznick wrote the screenplay, meaning it will stay close to the original story, and half the movie will be presented as a silent film, with Rose being played by a deaf actress. Plus photos from the set look incredible! I can’t wait for the trailer to be released!! If you want more information, I wrote a more in-depth article about Wonderstruck on Moviepilot.

The Shape of Water

While I haven’t yet watched all of del Toro’s films, the three I have watched, Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, and Crimson Peak were all brilliant, with Crimson Peak being an especial favourite. I was excited for his next movie before I’d even learned anything about it, and despite hardly any information being released, the more I see the more obsessed I get. It’s a romantic fantasy set against the backdrop of the Cold War era which sounds really unique; and knowing del Toro, it will be highly creative and beautifully made. And the best part: del Toro developed the idea with Daniel Kraus, the extraordinarily talented author of one of my favourite books The Death and Life of Zebulon Finch and on IMDB, he’s credited with the writing the story for the movie!! If you haven’t guessed it already, I’m ridiculously excited for this one!!

What upcoming movies are you looking forward to??  Let me know!
