review 1: The characters, in general, had about as much depth as characters from a 1940's film about the 1920's. In many ways, one could call it cliche. What didn't ring true for me was the ending. It was too abrupt, open-ended, and from the perspective of how Ellie's character had been maturing, it seemed unnatural. I would have liked more honesty, more complexity, more depth revealed in the exchange between the characters rather than having it explained, but this was the author's choice of storytelling. An interesting story, but the only book I'll read by this author.

I loved the first half of this book. The second half was dry, boring and overly descriptive.
