review 2: Eliza makepeace was without a doubt my favorite character. Her wildness, stories and mourning over loss, so beautifully described. Always half of a pair, always looking for the other half. My fav scenes with Eliza were in the cottage, the time with nathaniel and after with her baby. Eliza is strength, stubborn, powerful, wild, dedicated, vulnerable, loving, and always looking....Second fav is probably Rose. Always ill, always kept ill and taken care of. Locked out of freedom, Adeline making sure of that. Her pain when she couldn't conceive, her jealousy. Adeline, never was a first choice to anyone. Dull, boring, never wanted. Trying her best to fit in, but it never worked out. Her trying hits me.Nell, the person who this story was all about. Never felt like i really got to know her, just like no one else really did. Cassandra, didnt interest me very much. Probably because i hardly knew her in the first half of the book. The full circle, cassandra and christian ending up in the forgotten garden, unraveling the mystery and finding love, was beautiful, felt right. less

When a book keeps me turning the pages like this one did, I have to give it at least 4 stars.
