review 1: There were times that I had a hard time connecting to the writing style in this book and felt that the overall aspect of trying to capture a slave trader was a bit weak. Not only that, but the hero, Steven, while a captivating character, was rather too harsh toward the heroine, Valerie, who, in my opinion, tried to hard to capture his attention, making her appear a bit desperate. However, that being said, I still found myself turning the pages, for there was something compelling there that kept my interest.
review 2: I was really saddened and disappointed by this book. I had really high hopes for it and was excited when it got to the top of my TBR pile but I absolutely did not like it at all. 5 pages in and I was really having trouble focusing on the storyline ... moreand it just didn't flow for me. I'll try the next book in the series but my expectations for it are already pretty low. Neither character seemed at all interesting and it just seemed parts of the plot line were left without fully being explained or resolved.Would not recommend this book and I hope this is just a one-off because I had heard so much good reviews for Kathrine Ashe. less
