review 1: Well... As a bona fide candy connoisseur, I was already biased to love this book... but though it didn't exactly exceed expectations, there were some notable candy facts that impressed me. The story was a nice background to what I saw as the true story: Life As A Candy Maker. That's about as much a dream career as I can create myself, don't you think? I felt that this particular book was not in line with many of her other books, as Weber tends to write about more serious matters (Although, admittedly, there were some serious matters in this book as well). This was certainly not a bad thing, as it read to me like a special, exclusive look into the Candy Business.

... mores recommended by my pal, Bunny, quite some time ago. A wonderful tale of a somewhat hapless woman who marries into the family candy business and finds her true calling. Shrewd and caustic, Alice Ziplinksy draws us into both candy manufacturing and the immigrant experience ~ then add in family dynamics and a "tragic mistake" of her past and the reader will enjoy the ironies of life along with her. Again, my thanks to Bunny who has saved me hours of unfulfilled reading time. I also recommend this book.... just in time for packing your beach bag. less

Not all that funny. I hate that the story hopscotches from present to past and all in between.

I actually kind of want to give this one 2 1/2. I liked it at first, but it grew tedious.

It didn't really go anyplace but was fun to read anyway. Candy bar nostalgia, etc.
