review 1: This was almost a sweet and entertaining romance but without enough substance to really make it so. Love and sex are powerful attracting forces so for a romance to work any obstacles keeping the lovers apart must work by being even more compelling and forceful, and in this case they didn't. There were no obstacles except the selfish indecisive heroine's neuroses that really didn't make much sense at all--even though several times she expressed awareness and insight that she was making no sense. After much wheel-spinning, the redundancy just served to drag out the story and lose my interest. After slogging through so much of the stupid stuff floating around the flaky heroine's brain, I started to find the her a most unappealing and unsympathetic character. If people in ... morereal life were as dumb about meeting their own needs and desires, the human race would have ceased to exist long ago. Really nice bookcover though.
review 2: An precise rating would be somewhere between 2 and 2.5 stars. It is in many ways okay for what it is (I'm not a huge romance fan, but I do like horses and cowboys and needed something light and Christmasy). But I'm just not satisfied with it. It feels too short--like it resolved too quickly and easily.... that more should have been involved to get to the ending. So something is missing between 3/4 of the way in and the end to cause the things that happen in the resolution. Hopefully I managed to phrase that in a way that makes sense but doesn't spoil anything for anyone. less
