Dream On (The Silver Trilogy #2): Book Review

Dream On by Kerstin Gier Book Cover

Dream On by Kerstin Gier – 4/5

Genre: Romance, Fantasy, Young Adult

Things seem to be going well for Liv Silver: she’s adjusting to her new home in London; she has a burgeoning romance with Henry Harper, one of the cutest boys in school; and the girl who’s been turning her dreams into nightmares, Anabel, is now locked up. But serenity doesn’t last for long.

It seems that Liv’s troubles are far from over—in fact, suddenly they’re piling up. School gossip blogger Secrecy knows all of Liv’s most intimate secrets, Henry might be hiding something from her, and at night Liv senses a dark presence following her through the corridors of the dream world. Does someone have a score to settle with Liv?

Dream On is the second book in The Silver Trilogy by Kerstin Gier. If you haven’t read my review on Dream A Little Dream which was the first book in the trilogy, I suggest you check it out by pressing the link below:

A little heads up, my reviews contain SPOILERS so if you guys haven’t read the book and you don’t want to ruin it for yourself, get out of here.

Dream On focuses on what happens after Anabel, Arthur’s derange girlfriend, is finally sent to a mental institution with hopes of her getting well. But everything it seems will not remain the same as Liv and Mia experience terrors in their dreams and even in reality. In this book, we will find out who is behind all of these nightmares and why.

Moving on to my actual review, I gave this book a 4/5 which is a 0.5 higher than what I gave the first book mainly because the story in this book flowed more naturally and had a more effective suspense factor than the first book.

In Dream On, literally so many things happen in both reality and in the dream world. It also gets really confusing sometimes when it comes to distinguishing whether she’s awake or asleep–which I think is really how the author meant it to be, and I must say it worked well with the story.

Here, we find so many new characters like the Spencer children’s prude grandmother, and the ironically crazy psychologist, and B, and lots more. Personally, I really appreciated how fuller this story is as compared to the first book. Everything is more fast-paced without of course losing the finesse in every scene.

I guess my favourite part was when Liv and Mia decide to chop down the Spencer’s grandmother;s favourite bush or shrub or whatever that plant was. I also loved all the Liv and Grayson scenes, because as you may know from my previous review, I very much ship these two future step-siblings. But is that even legal? I don’t really know, and I don’t really care. I still ship it. Please let it sail.

My least favourite parts were when Liv was being hated on by nearly everyone in their school, especially by her future step-sister Florence. Honestly, everyone is being so melodramatic. They were sort of demonizing her over trimming a plant. Slow clap, everybody. And of course, Henry and Liv’s break up scene was terrible. I know I ship Grayson and Liv, but I still don’t like seeing Liv and darling Henry so miserable.

Apart from all those, everything else went swimmingly. Arthur being the new villain was kind of a shock, and I loved it anyway. He’s become such a jerk but it suits his character well. The character-building in this story should be commended. So yes, 4/5 for this book, and I hope the next and last book to this series finally gets a 5/5. I will be reading it with my fingers crossed.

P.S. I still don’t know who Secrecy from the Tittle-Tattle blog is!
