review 1: I loved this! On the surface, it's a great love story, full of sacrifice and myth. Friendship...things that go bump (and worse) in the night...truth, honor and loyalty. But, dig a little deeper, and it's a story about the "youthenizing" of our culture - how aging makes one culturally insignificant and invisible. If you love Irish mythology, you'll love this book. I'm hoping that it's the beginning of a series, and can't wait for more from Harbour.
review 2: Thorn JackbyKatherine HarbourMy " in a nutshell" summary...After the death of her sister Lily Rose...Finn and her Da move from San Francisco to a small town in New York. There...mysterious things start to happen because the town seems filled with mystery and highly unusual characters. My thoughts after readi
... moreng this book...Children of nothing and night...OMG...Finn is all around them...what really happened to her sister and her mother? It's as though this town is steeped in these heartless mystery evil creatures with Reiko as the HEAD VIPER. Jack Strata...is he Finn's friend or is he Reiko's slave kind of guy...the one who must do her bidding? And where on earth is is his heart? What a book! What I loved about this book...Ok...what I really loved about this book and what potential readers should love is the awesome characters. Christie, Sylvie, Finn...making their way through this evil otherworldly battleground...the parties, the wine, the unreal ness and evilness of everything. The tension between Finn and Jack...it's the stuff that made so many of us love Twilight... I believe that I read somewhere that this book was similar to The Night Circus...and I get that...I really do! It has the same kind of magical ethereal feel...I truly felt that otherworldly pull throughout the book. It was a tense tingling sort of book.Final thoughts...I loved this book. I loved the characters, the reveals and the situations. It was magical...kind of scary...and until I finished it...it was a tense ride for me. The last pages...when Finn knows what she has to do...are amazing. less
