review 1: You know those days when you get up in the morning with a long list of things to get done that day but then make the mistake of turning the tv on and before you know it, you've watched 8 episodes of Law & Order and haven't accomplished a damned thing? That's totally what this book reminded me of....it's some pretty good writing, but it all adds up to not much. At the end of the book, I felt like saying "Well, so what?" The thing that Hill is awesome at is creating realistic, sympathetic characters. Unfortunately, the plot is fairly non-existent. And besides a brief mention of 8:o'clock being the violet hour, I just didn't really get why it was called that. I did like the ending thought about wishing you could spend time with your mother or your grandmother when they were ... moreat theirprime, so you could all be at your best together.
review 2: I found this book to be unfulfilling. There were no Aha moments, nothing in the writing that made me stop and think, nothing particularly interesting about the characters. I didn't like or dislike them, they were just boring. I made it to the end of the novel, hoping for Some kind of payoff. I don't need things to be tied up in a tidy bow at the end of the books I read, but this one just stopped more than it ended. Like this review.. less

Started out interesting, but fizzled out quickly. Overall, boring and flat.
