review 1: Sam is an orphan who survived the foster care system and settled into a benevolent group home. Now she has a chance at graduate school, as long as she applies to a specific journalism program and writes the foundation’s benefactor letters to update her progress, letters which will not be answered. This book is a reader’s dream. Full of quotes from Jane Austen and other classics, we are entranced by Sam’s life through her letters. I was completely captivated by 24%, crying at 43%, and could not put the book down until it was finished. And then I missed it. I will certainly read it again someday soon. For lovers of classic literature, especially Jane Austen, and closet romantics.
review 2: Unfortunately, this book was a miss for me. The author obviously enjo
... moreys Jane Austen but completely misunderstands the social delicacies and commentary that Austen uses in her books. It's as if she just enjoys the quaint, old-world feel, the manners and dialogue. Sadly, this book is just poorly written. The dialogue was weak and that was probably what made me cringe the most. I wish I had something more positive to say :/ less

I wanted to love this book, I really did. I did not dislike it, but I did not fall love with it.

Read this in one sitting! It's not the great American novel, but it's a very good read.
