review 1: The title of this book, "Texas Wedding for Their Baby's Sake", really detracts from the involving story line and the interesting characters. Kathryn Albright is a wonderful romantic storyteller, and the setting and era of 1830's Texas and South Carolina add just the right elements for this tale of a wounded hero and his awesome heroine. Brandon Dumont is a successful surgeon and society member of Charleston, SC. He has won the heart of the beautiful Caroline Benet, to whom he becomes secretly engaged, and they share a night of loving passion. The arrival of Brandon's brother, Jake, sets in motion a course of events which causes Brandon to leave Charleston and Caroline behind. He heads to Texas with Caroline's brother Tom, never suspecting the horrors which he will soon fac... moree. Caroline is left with a broken heart, and soon discovers that she is expecting Brandon's child. Her parents expect her to either marry quickly or give up her child. Since Caroline wants to keep her baby, and the only man she wants is Brandon, she sets out to find her lost love. When the two are finally reunited, both are greatly changed. Caroline has found strengths in herself that she never expected, and she is no longer just a "society miss". Brandon has become bitter and remote, the effects of war and doctoring the wounded, and then his own harsh imprisonment, have all taken a serious toll. He is not happy to see Caroline, and even more stunned when he learns he is to be a father. He has never stopped loving her, but he sees himself unfit to love any woman, and he feels he can no longer practice medicine. Once Caroline realizes that Brandon does not wish to return with her to Charleston, she determines to find a way to reach him and make him see how much she loves him. The passion between them is undeniable, but so is the anger and uncertainty. I love wounded heroes, but what really made this story special is the greatness of Caroline's character. She is much more than her beauty and her societal standing--she is a real woman who sees the flaws in her man, and loves him all the more. She forgives him, stands by him, admonishes him, and lifts him up to stand at her side. He is worthy, so worthy, and she redeems him and makes him whole. A very good romance read with a terrible title, "Texas Wedding for Their Baby's Sake" is highly recommended! review 2: Caroline had nothing to lose in her journey to Texas to find her fiance Brandon. He'd written to tell her he'd not be coming back, but he didn't know about the coming baby. But Brandon is not the man who had left her, he's now bitter and scarred deeply by war. The love they once shared only deepens his resolve to push her away at all costs. This is my first from Ms. Albright and I found it to be a lovely heartwarming romance. I must see if Brandon's brother Jake has his own story. less
