review 1: I am not usually a big fan of YA but this book was amazing. I don't even know how to begin to start this review....Drops of Rain follows the story of Ali as she tries to put the pieces of her life back together after her mother passes away. Her father moves them across the country to Florida for her senior year of high school. One her morning run, she meets a sexy stranger and shares a passionate kiss. In a moment of clarity, thanks to a seagull, the embrace is broken. Little does she know that her mystery man is none other than Drew, her neighbor and the king of her new school. She has decided that she isn't going to make waves; just stick to her plan- practice her dancing and nail her audition to Julliard.Drew is the ultimate boy next door. He is a star athlete, a good s... moretudent and devoted to the few people he lets into his life. He is harboring a huge secret though. To say things at home are not good is a vast understatement. Along with his brother Beau, they are the guys that all the others want to be and all the girls want to date. However, Drew is just counting down the days until he can leave for college. When Ali walks into his class on the first day of school, he thinks things maybe looking up. However, she does her best to keep to herself and doesn't even notice him until a few weeks into the school year. When Ali and Drew finally come face to face with each other again, there is no denying the connection they have. Through the bumps in the road of life that each of them lead, they find a way to give the best of themselves to each other. When they finally admitted their feelings to each other I was thrilled for them- that they had found some goodness in the chaos that was their life. When Ali is witness to Drew's father's scheming, she misinterprets the situation and is devastated. My heart broke for this girl who had already lost so much and was once again losing someone she loved. And that wasn't the end of the blows that came her way. She became the prey of the school's mean girl and suffered a down right vicious attack. But that isn't all the lovely couple had to endure. Secrets and feelings are revealed. This allows Ali and Drew to make progress in their relationship. Just as things are looking on the up and up, things at home for Drew go from bad to worse, he does what he has to do to defend his mom and brothers. This lands him in a heap of trouble. He finds an unexpected ally and the crazy situation works itself out. This book touched me in so many ways. I was rooting for Ali and Drew to find the happiness they deserved but it was so much more than that. It was about so much more than finding yourself. It is a book of fighting for yourself and those you care about. Finding your way back to yourself when you're lost and, of course, love finding a way when you've reached the end of your rope. I absolutely can not wait for the next book in this series about Beau.
review 2: I received a ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I had a stop on the Drops of Rain Blog Tour. I'll start by saying what a surprise this book was. I didn't know what to expect, but I absolutely loved it. Ali lost her mother. So her dad moved them to the beach. A fresh start... Cause after years of watching someone you love suffer. The best thing to do is start over right?Only thing is, her dad just dropped her off and left her. She was alone most of the time. Across the street lived a young man also 19, named Drew. Who has 2 brothers.Every morning Drew goes for a swim. This one August morning he bumps into Ali while swimming. She's just floating on her back after a run. That's what She does every morning. From that first moment there was a connection. BUT, Drew can't let her get close. It wouldn't be good for him, or her. Little did he know she was the young lady who lives across the street from him. She's in a couple of his classes at school. He can't seem to escape her. There is just something about Ali that is a breath of fresh air. Together they find peace and happiness. Although there is one thing keeping them from coming out in the open about their relationship. Drew's father. He's quite the evil man. It's truly a remarkable story. One that I was shocked to of loved. I'm not usually the fan of high schoolers. BUT the author does a great job at making them not seem so young. I rate Drops of Rain 5+ stars!!! :) less
