Karin Schaeffer
review 1: Karin Schaeffer was a promising police detective. That was before she worked on the case of the Domino Killer, a serial murderer who liked to kill one family member at a time until all of them were dead. He chillingly left a clue with each body, a number made out of dominos, as to who was next. After he kills the last member of the Alderman family, a full scale police hunt searches for him, leaving no stone unturned. However, Karin is the one to find his hiding place and when he later manages to escape he comes after her family killing her husband and 3y old daughter and promises that she is next. This was a real page turner, a roller coaster of a thriller. And just when you think all is fine and everything will be Ok now, something unexpected happens.Brr... morerr!!!
review 2: Picked up this book from a Big Bad Wolf book sale, I read the synopsis and though um sound good. Never read anything from this author before but I always love this genre.I have a mix feeling about rating this book, I want to give a higher rating but I hesitate because there are certain things or part of this book that made me go “meh”.This would make a good TV movie, the characters are well developed and almost believable. But the thing about this book, almost everything about it was quite predictable. I mean, there is no guessing game who the killer is, but more like his background story and other plots that surround this guy is rather expected, no surprise there, everything had that “been there done that book” kind of aura. Also the ending was soooooooooooo hallmark. But what I liked about this book is that, it kept a certain pace that makes it a page turner. Like all the cliff hanger happens at the end of a chapter (which is bad for me because I tend to continue until wee hour in the morning). I also loved the gory murders and crime scene in this book, it was well describe but did not lag too much on it. Karin is strong character but there is certain part in the book that makes me want to shake her. She is so lost, I understand if your loved one is taken away from you in a horrible way you tend to lose hope and purpose in your life. But gurl! You’ve been a cop before where is your sense of justice for this sick bastard who killed your family. ***SPOILER ALERT***So saying that she found him by accident sound silly, you WERE finding for him, you went to that place to check up on a call made by someone. If you are there to find for someone who might be the killer, finding him is not accident. The call as been accurate and you found your killer. He may not be standing there with a “I’m the killer” board hanging from his neck, but almost always you find killers by following up on calls on a suspect. I don’t get what she keep saying its accident. Anyone else thought the whole killing the alderman’s family because of a high school suspension over a lousy paper was a little weak? It didn’t seem like a good motive to begin with even with a little crush. Her love interest with Mac was very …….not necessary but I am ok with it because they did not get all mushy and lovey dovey over each other. They kept their love and work apart. I generally hate love story in between a good crime investigation. It messes up the whole investigating ‘feel’. Karin’s behavior in this whole book did not seem like she was a cop, more like someone who experience a bad happenings in her life. Her actions or reaction does not sound like an ex-cop. less
