review 2: Bethany Quinn, an up-and-coming architect living in Chicago has spent the last ten years recreating her life to be as new and strong as the buildings she designs. Thoug
... moreh all the while she is secretly masking over her tragic childhood, living in a trailer park with her estranged mother and set apart from her Grandpa Dan, who's farm she had once called home. It wasn't until a shocking call from her mother did Bethany decide it was time to return to Peaks and face all those she had left behind so many years ago. Make the visit quick and brief was the plan until tragedy struck and Bethany found herself inheriting her grandfather's farm and forced to work alongside her grandfather's farmhand, Evan Price, a God driven, hard working man who is determined to continue working the farm, even under the hands of Bethany Quinn.Though Evan has a hard time seeing past Bethany's determination to abandon her past and the farm she once loved, he can't help but feel drawn to her and the reasons behind her hurt. Bethany, fearing the roots she has planted in the soils of Peaks, must now make a decision. Does she continue on fighting for her dreams even if in the end it means crushing the hearts of those living in her old town, or does she believe in the possibility of a life, one where she could keep the farm she once loved, even if it means having to come face to face with a God she struggles to believe in and the ghosts of her past she struggled so hard to get away from. When I first read the description of this book I became intrigued. It was my first time reading a Christian romance. I was not sure what to expect, but from the moment I read the prologue I could not put it down. As a young girl, Bethany's story pulled at my heart and drew me in to her story. As a young adult, her journey through the ghosts of her past and trials of her present became all too real and relatable. Katie Ganshert created a story so beautiful and so true to life that you feel as though you are right there living the story with her characters. The emotions you feel for her characters become so real that you find yourself laughing, crying and even arguing out loud with them as they go through their struggles and making big life decisions. As both a Christian and fan of romance I felt this book did not in any way disappoint, except when I got to the end and realized there was no more story. Thankfully there was a note at the end informing me that Katie Ganshert had another book, "Wishing on Willows", out spring of 2013. I literally jumped in my seat, I will for sure be reading that book.I received this book for free from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group for free in exchange for this review. less
