review 1: One of the best YA books Ive read in a while. This book has had no hype yet, which I kind of liked about it. I have been on the John Green, Veronica Roth, Suzanne Collins train for a while now so it was kind of nice reading something I haven't heard of before. It deals with a topic that's very unique in the book world (I'm not going to give it away) but absolutely nothing about it is Dystopian, it's purely a human condition that I find really intriguing. My ONLY bash about it is it was too short. I literally read it in a few hours, maybe less. But then again, maybe short and sweet is ok too. Fans of Lauren Oliver's 'Before I Fall' (which is probably my fav YA of all time tied with Jay Asher's 'Thirteen Reasons Why') will love this book.
review 2: I actually had
... more stopped reading this about 3/4 of the way in and was going to return it to the library but then my "always finish what you've started" part of me kept thinking about how short it was and how quick I could finish it even if I wasn't liking it. Well, I finished it. It was okay. The last half was better than the first half so I guess I'm glad I finished it... but then again, I could've lived my life without reading this book and have been fine. The whole idea the book stemmed from was so unique that I can't quite make a judgement of this book because there is no standard to compare it to. It was weird, but interesting at the end because that's when all the weird started to actually have reasons attached. Don't not read it because I gave it two stars. I actually want people to read it and say what they thought. It was just so mehhh I don't even know. I can't say I hated it because I'm afraid I'll be letting my aversion to the strangeness of it override the critical reader part of me. But when it come down to it, I didn't enjoy it. It was slow and the main character took super long to finally figure out crap and I had a problem with how the love thing was happening. The narrator felt so distant, which is totally who she was as a person so that's okay, it just made it hard to connect with her or the other characters. I just don't know what to make of this story. less
