review 1: I wanted to know where the story was going to go and what would happen to the characters but I also found myself wanting to be done already because I was just so annoyed at the constant bad circumstances that the characters left themselves in. I know that was some of the point, how people can get stuck and learned helplessness and all that, but really I wanted to read about people figuring out how to save themselves. Not all doom and gloom.
review 2: Sometimes in MFA workshops, the author puts in a small detail that completely overshadows the story and grabs my attention so hard I suddenly don't care at all about the main story. I almost want this book to be rewritten through the POV of the supporting cast. I blitzed through the ending, which I found more than a little ridiculous. This book would have made an amazing TV series on the CW or UPN, but I can honestly say I've never watched a single show on either. less
