review 1: Stating the obvious in vulgar terms is not the same thing as saying something original or well. It was funny to discover that we knew someone in common--John Trudell. I arranged a speaking engagement for him at my university in the 90s and Kelly Cutrone was, in her words, f***king him. I'm disappointed Kelly did not have anything more interesting to say about him. Unfortunately, creating uninteresting prose is the distinguishing feature of this book. A good illustration why unreflective blogs should not be mistaken for carefully crafted books.
review 2: If you don't like Kelly Cutrone, or people with loud personalities who like to tell it how they see it, then you definitely won't like this book - so don't buy it "on a whim" and then proceed to review about how... more much you disliked it.With that said, I thought this was a pretty fun and quick read. My mind was opened - and I started to just evaluate how I liked myself/my life/etc. I like that the chapters felt like little personal essays, all bound together into this fun, thought-provoking book. I also like that Cutrone showed what she meant by giving personal anecdotes, instead of just writing a "how to 'properly' live your life so you're experiencing life" book. This book made me laugh, cry and answer questions I had never even thought of - like why people believed that kids should believe in Santa.I didn't actually read her first book, so I don't have anything to compare this book to (as other reviewers did). But I liked this book, and can't wait to read her first one. If you want a fun, fast nonfiction to read (and you like Kelly Cutrone or women like her), then go pick this book up. If not, then don't bother. less
