review 1: Gilbert Goldfish Wants a Pet is about a little fish who meets all kinds of pets that roam around the house. He tries to befriend the housedog but it keeps licking his water out of Gilbert’s bowl and barking. Then, Gilbert meets a fly and wants to keep him as a pet but someone swatted the fly. Gilbert starts to give up hope but finally meets a catfish and they become great friends. I like this book because it is simply cute and funny. I think kids that are lonely could easily relate to this book because they may want a best friend. Gilbert finally finds a friend that he cares about which could give kids hope that they will eventually find good friends. I also like that this book is simplistic and simply makes the audience happy. Sometimes, simplicity is fun and can be ve... morery engaging without having a sentimental meaning every time. review 2: Cute story! Gilbert the goldfish desperately wants a pet, and he's having a tough time deciding what kind - should it be small? big? have feathers? fur? As different pets come to visit him, Gilbert tries them out but it's never quite the right "fit"! My favorite is what happens to the fly that comes by! Any guesses??? There is a surprise ending that had even me making an incorrect inference :) less
