review 1: Miranda loves fairy tales and is always out to help others find their happy ending. But she has given up on a happily-ever-after for herself. But when she finds herself compromised by a duke and he insists on marrying her, her plans change and she wonders if maybe she truly can have a happy ending after all since she adores her new husband. But when he makes it clear that he does not believe in fairy tales, her dreams are dashed. Cute regency romance with a unique plot and charming characters.
review 2: Miranda Fenster is a firm believer in fairy tales and happy endings, but doesn't think much of her own happy ending. She's content to live the rest of her life as a spinster. That is until Simon Watterly, Duke of Kerstone, re-enters her life and turns it upside
... moredown. After a close to scandal encounter, the Duke proposes marriage. Finding herself reluctantly wed to Simon, Miranda discovers that there might be hope of a happy ending for them unless Simon's family secrets tear them apart. Good points: Miranda and Simon were well matched. She was a bit fanciful and could make Simon laugh. Simon was interesting and his family background was somewhat complicated and disturbing. I love how Miranda sticks by him through whatever they face and strives endlessly to find a cure for his 'illness'. She's easy to like, genuine and intelligent. Simon was a bit of a challenge. Sometimes I liked him and other times I railed at him for acting so stupid. It's obvious they're in love and they should be together yet he doesn't bridge the distance between him and his wife. I really felt for Miranda in her bouts of loneliness. Bad points: There should have been more of a turmoil between the couple, a lot of arguing (especially on Miranda's part). Miranda had to suffer in the early days of her marriage because of the decisions taken by her foolish husband. While Simon knew she was hurting and Miranda occasionally remarked about her uncertainty in the marriage, it wasn't enough. She should have been a bit more vocal. It was as though she felt right back into Simon's arms although he'd made some serious errors with heavy repercussions on Miranda's part. Yes, she loves him but that didn't mean she should just let everything go as he'd wanted it. Although described as head strong, it's not portrayed in Miranda's behavior towards her husband. She's always trying to please him and at times it borders on irritating. Plus, most of the novel is about the distance between them. The book ends as that distance has been bridged. The plot is too short and the separation too long. What makes the separation unbearable, as mentioned above, was that there was no boiling point, no all hell breaks loose argument. In a way it was cute and relaxing but kind of boring. I felt as though Simon's parents' story would make a much more interesting read. This is the second time I've read The Fairy-tale Bride and while I liked it, I was much more hooked the first time. I kind of knew what to expect so that took the suspense out of the plot, leaving me to focus in the romance. The romance between Miranda and Simon was wonderful in the beginning but because of Simon's enforced distance, it began growing tedious and their reconciliation short-lived (not that there was much reconciling as there was no blow out scene). Still, something cute to pass the time. less

Not bad for a free book. Did have a lot of punctuation errors.
