review 1: This is a truly marvelous book! It's a delight to read on so many levels. This is a fictional account of Louisa May Alcott's "lost summer". The author seeks to answer the queston: how could a spinster such as Miss Alcott write so believably about love? The author's perfect weaving of real people and fictional characters leads to a perfectly woven story; a beautiful tapestry of love in 19th century America. You'll believe that it's true. You'll hope that it's true. And, if the final chapter doesn't work for you, you surely have no heart. This book is well researched. You'll find yourself caught up in Louisa May Alcott's 19th century America.Thank you Kelly O'Connor McNees.
review 2: I was torn between a 4 and 5 star rating because the book was so good I couldn'
... moret stop reading and I always wanted to know what happened next. It also encouraged me to go buy Whitman's Leaves of Grass (which I did) and read it. I also now HAVE to read Pretty Women and will be buying that very soon. I've never had a book that spiked my curiosity to read so many other books. However I can't get over how unsatisfying the ending was and how I just couldn't truly connect to Louisa, the main character. It was great for me to stretch myself and read what is so much more than a romance with the typical happy or awfully tragic ending. Great read - I would fully recommend it to another! less
