review 1: When I Was Joe is one of my favourite trilogy's in YA fiction so i really wanted to read Lia's Guide. I liked the way the book started with Lia being a complete cow to her Mother and acting very spoiled. Shaz was my favourite character as she is very into her religion and tries to keep Lia doing the right thing when she wins all of the money. Shaz is a true friend to her as she loves her for who she is not because she suddenly has money. I liked the fact that towards the end of the book Lia and her sister kind of switch roles and Lia becomes the sensible person and really grows up. It is completely different to the Joe trilogy and i am looking forward to reading whatever book Keren brings out next.
review 2: From the coverMoney can't buy you love, but it can
... more buy many other very nice thingsLia's mother is a nag, hers sister's a pain and she's getting nowhere in pursuit of the mysterious Raf. Then she wins eight million pound in the Lottery, and suddenly everything is different. But will Lia's fortune create more problems than it solves? This is not the sort of book I would normally read, but having read other novels by Karen David, I thought I would give it a go. And I enjoyed it, although it is written for a much younger audience. I felt the interactions between Lia and her parents were realistic and reflected the normal issues between Parents and sixteen year old children! Each Chapter stared with a piece of advice from Lia relating to winning the Lottery and I particularly liked the following -"Life is a lottery" People say that a lot."I don't think it's true. Who expects to win the Lottery when they buy a lottery ticket? Only the most stupid person imaginable. Mostly you think, it's only a pound or two, it's only a chance, I might win a tenner, it doesn't really matter.Imagine if life really was like a lottery. Imagine if every choice you made you thought, oh well, it doesn't really matter. It's all just chance and luck. I'm probably going to lose. You wouldn't care, would you? You wouldn't take care over your decisions. You wouldn't bother to think about what you were doing, work towards anything, make healthy or intelligent choices. Life isn't a lottery at all. It's just that a lot of people act as though it were." less
