review 1: Ok, I would have thought that Mikhael would have deserved a more sassy woman than Pamela and her wearing mask and cape was pretty cheesy, but once I got into that story I was actually disappointed when it stopped. I would love to see their dynamics work out in their covert operations. The chemistry between those two could really work. The concept of a parallel dimension Vamp City is good. I liked this story.Loved this one "First dates are hell" and so hope to read more about Valiance and Esme. The mer people as vampires was a new concept to me but the story didn't really do anything for me. The characters were not well developed and the introduction fell flat (as it is a short story). There are not many explanations given why people are the way they are and we do not get mor... moree info on the daywalking vampire mer who seem to have an issue with the building of the Golden Gate Bridge. Not my cup of tea.
review 2: Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.Quick & Dirty: This book is filled with 4 novellas and gives you the opportunity to get a sneak peek into three different series.Opening Sentence: As a man of few words, Mikhail Kirillov never stated the obvious. The Review:The first novella is V is for VampWoman, which was a cute read and allowed me to jump back into the Love at Stake series. I have only read How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire and Vamps and the City, so I have a vague recollection of our heroine, Lady Pamela. I was charmed by her presence and glad to see there was more to her back story than I had originally believed. In some ways I was very much in the same initial mindset as our hero, Mikhail Kirillov, feels about Lady Pamela’s personality, but I’m thrilled to be wrong. This story is short and very much to the point, but it doesn’t suffer from any extraneous material and is truly a story unto itself. I was drawn back into the Love at Stake world and I will definitely be making a return visit soon. The second novella is A Forever Love. I was new to both the author and the series. Our heroine, Elizabeth Bryant, is trying to get over a once in a lifetime relationship with Lukas Olsson and failing miserably. Meanwhile, Lukas is a vampire that has been stuck in Vamp City because the magic is failing. One day, Elizabeth is transported to Vamp City in a blink of an eye as she crosses the road on her way to work. I enjoyed the over reaching story telling but not the story which seems to be a bit of a contradiction in terms, but I will definitely read something by Pamela Palmer again, but I have no desire to revisit the world of Vamp City. I’m just not a huge fan of dark worlds and this one leans too heavily that way for my liking.First Dates Are Hell is the third novella in this book and I totally adored it. Valiance is a vampire that could charm the socks or any other undergarments off a lady. He has been attempting to re-enter the world of humanity and is being mentored by a panther shifter after his coven attempted to kill him. Valiance aka “Val” has noticed Esme. Now Esme’s story is interesting and I don’t want to give anything away but she has been overlooked her whole life, so to have someone notice her makes her heart flutter. This story was a great intro to the rest of the Diaries of an Urban Panther world, and I will be adding the rest of the series to my need to read list as soon as I can squeeze in the time.Blood and Water rounds out the novellas in this book, and I’m of two minds and I’m struggling between — I enjoyed it and ewww. We meet Stellan as he is swimming around a ferry in the San Francisco Bay in 1906. If I had to categorize Stellan then I would put him as a cross between a vampire and merman. This is a mix I hadn’t ever considered and yet it works. Our heroine, Angelina Ralston, is a woman of means with a creative flair and the burden of marrying as her parents dictate. If you are looking for an unusual paranormal romance than I would definitely recommend this novella. I will be keeping my eye on Kim Falconer’s work in the future. My overall impression of this entire collection is that you can wade into three series with confidence and/or try out a new author knowing that you will have great writing from all the authors.Notable Scene:This was a vampire and definitely female. Her head was covered with a black spandex cap that included a mask over her eyes. Whoever she was, she was stunning. Black leather boots and gloves, and the rest of her encased in body-hugging black spandex. Long, slim legs, nicely rounded hips, a trim waist cinched tightly with a leather utility belt, and breasts that were firm and full. Not too full, he amended his assessment, but full enough to fit nicely in his hands. Not that he intended to—His thoughts screeched to a halt. Her body looked familiar. Only the lower half of her face was exposed, but that, too, seemed familiar. Where had he seen those lips? So pink and delicate. And the way she lifted her chin with a slight tilt, as if she could shrivel a man’s balls with one arrogant, disdainful glance—he’d see that before on a reality show on the Digital Vampire Network. He didn’t usually watch television, but that was one show he hadn’t missed. Was it truly her? How many times had he imagined her naked on a pile of furs?FTC Advisory: Avon Romance provided me with a copy of Vampires Gone Wild. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. less
