review 1: This is #19 in a series of going on #20 I think. What caught my eye is that it is set in Australia in the 1920s. I haven't read much (or any) of that era in that country. It's a mystery and definitely not a formulaic one -well at least not for me. Maybe all of her mysteries are like this maybe they aren't, too early to tell. Although by book 19 it does seem like there has been plot advancement. This was enjoyable. I would (will!) read another.
review 2: Loved it - Phryne is upset by the treatment given to young pregnant unmarried women at a Melbourne nunnery: they are made to work in the commercial laundry, several of the nuns supervising are Simon Legree in habits, and their children are taken away immediately after birth regardless of the mother's wishes.
