review 1: What I like most about this book is how it came to be. The publisher came up with the plot sort of as a reaction to anything Amish would get picked up. He showed it to one of his authors as a laugh and the author came up with a way to make it work.It has all three elements with the Amish storyline being the strongest. However vampires are brought in a clever and believable manner, as well as the speculative and science fiction piece. An Amish colony sends a distress signal to the overseeing federation because one man, Jebediah, senses things are going wrong with the planet's sun. He was left instructions for a machine in his barn by his father and he finally uses them. The community shuns him for using technology although he technically has saved them. A ship is summo... morened to relocate the community. However something else is in the ships cargo bay.Worth reading if you are a fan of any of these genres.
review 2: It was actually a bit better than 3 stars, but not as good as many books I've rated 4 stars. I wasn't sure whether to add a star for the ridiculous title or take one away! But quite honestly... it was truly a pretty good book. Interesting plot. Great character development and descriptors. Would honestly make a good movie. I mean, if people can enjoy teenage vampire romances, why not Amish vampire sci-fi Christian fiction? The themes of pacifism when faced with protecting your family and putting aside your ideals for the sake of survival were thought provoking. I might have learned a bit about the Amish along the way. But then the title... Ohhhhhhhh the title!!! less
