review 1: It was my first Graphic Novel to read, and it was excellent. The illustrations by Fabio Celoni and Mirka Andolfo were wonderful, and although I knew the story from the book and movie, it was a whole new way of experiencing it. What I found peculiar about this experience is that I found myself pausing at several points, rethinking about the story, but also giving a moment's thought to the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan in these days, which we see on the news every day, but still can't comprehend. I didn't do that while reading the book or while watching the movie. Those were more of an emotional roller-coaster, and left me like an emotional wreckage afterwards, and they didn't give me the time to contemplate. I recommend them all though, the movie, the book, and this... more graphic novel. To my opinion, they all deserve 5/5 stars.
review 2: I read the novel and the graphic novel back to back. Some of the drawings didn't match up with the descriptions but it was a nice read nonetheless. I don't know if the story translated as well into graphics because a lot of it was told through Amir's thoughts and it was too much to shrink into pictures. However. where some details differed or were cut out, I thought it really helped to streamline the story so those were good decisions. less
