review 1: Tiki is an orphan who lives in London with four other kids near Charing Cross, a railway station. The story is set in Victorian times. I enjoyed the author's description of their lives and I felt myself being pulled into the story.You know how sometimes, when reading a really good book, you feel your surroundings melt away and you get pulled into the story. Yes, it was that kind of book. It was fast paced and I thoroughly enjoyed the read; so much so that I finished the book in 8 hours!There were bits of the story that were not as believable such as the time Tiki goes to the ball and seems to just blend in even though she's been living on the streets for a few years.The only critical thing I will say is that I wish the author spent more time on the Faerie world i.e. the th... moree Other World. I found the Faeries interesting... though we were only introduced to the evil ones. I wish there was more depth to the "evil" characters. Too often in fantasy books, the bad guys are portrayed as being evil with no story behind why they came to be that way.However, If you are look for a good quick-read fantasy book, this is it!
review 2: My favorite series about Faerie next to Holly Black's Tithe trilogy. Just the right amount of Gothic horror, adventure, and that dash of romance to bump this book from four to five stars. Once I picked it up I was done a few hours later and I could have sworn I was out of breath after completing my emotional roller coaster ride. Would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a splash of horror mixed in with their romance. less
