review 1: This is really an excellent Field Guide ! I was a fan of the Peterson's guides for American birds but I gave a try to the Svensson for my stay in Europe and I was amazed by the book. There is a lot of drawings, which is very helpful to identify birds, and also a nice introduction at the beginnig. There's also a lot of descriptions, the cost of that being the small size of the text... -----------------Yay ! I just received it :) lots of fun for tonight !
review 2: A useful and complete identification guide aimed at amateurs and professionals alike. The illustrations are accurate and easy to refer to and show the variations in colouring between males, females and juveniles. The explainations and advice given in the introduction is particularly useful for beginn... moreers and is a useful reminder to more experienced ornithologists. My only critique is the size of the book as it makes it a little awkward and heavy for a day out in the field (admittedly this can't really be helped) but otherwise a very useful guide. less
