review 1: I would give this three and a half stars if I could. I really enjoyed it because it reminded me a lot of The Forgotten Garden, though not quite as good. I did find the story intriguing and I liked a lot about it but couldn't quite love the main character, though I'm not sure why. Maybe because she is kind of a weak woman for a lot of the story. Anyway, it was a good read and I was totally into it even though I didn't absolutely love it.
review 2: I think this book might have been better if it had focused only on the grandmother's story. The modern story was incredibly predictable (totally typical chick lit stuff) and not that compelling. The historical story was more interesting but felt alternately rushed and too slow in parts. I ended up skimming the last
... more 20% of the book to see what would happen but didn't feel invested enough to spend the time reading the details. less
