review 1: I loved this book well before I opened the front cover, I got stuck staring at the beautiful portrait on the front mesmerized by the delicate beauty looking off into space. I had high expectations of this book as I do with every other piece of work Kim produces and again I was not failed, this book drew me in and didn't let me go until I was finished ..this meaning late nights with the bedside lamp on despite my partners "put it down already" attitude. The book tells two stories one of the past and another of the present situated in New South Wales. After finishing the book all I wanted to do was to travel to the place in which Kim stayed to write parts of this and experience the beauty of the nature surrounding as depicted in the novel. Way to go Ki... morem! :)
review 2: Beautifully written and cleverly constructed plot with well-rounded characters. I loved the setting for this novel - it was magical (Blue Mountains in the winter - snow!). Some components of the ending were predictable within the final 50 pages or so but still an enjoyable read right to the end. All loose ties wrapped up (always a relief) with a fitting ending. Moving between the different time settings (1926 & 2014) was seamless. less
