review 1: Brianna Sprouse My book review is about the book "The Healing Spell" by: Kimberley Griffiths Little. This book is about a young girl named Livi who is living with a horrible secret. She's responsible for her mother's coma. Livi's family is facing an emotional terminal, and she is living with the fact that her mother may die. Livi is a young girl from Louisiana. She lives with a house full of sisters and her pa who seems to be the only person that understands her. Her mother is in coma and her family seems to be falling apart without her. Livi will not even touch her mom, she is to afraid to go near her. All Livi wants to do is fish, hunt, and set traps with her daddy, but her sisters and her mothers influence wouldn't allow it. Livi learns of an old witch that lives deep... more in the bayou. She knows that if she visits this wish she can get a healing remedy for he mom.Livi gets the healing the spell that she believes will take her mom out of coma. Livi starts to have a crush on a boy ,but doesn't understand it because her moms not around to tell her about her felling. At the end of the book Livi's mom wakes up from coma. I believe this book could be a life lesson for all people. It speaks of a young girl that faces a challenge in her life. Her mother's in a coma, and she knows in the back of her mind that she is partially responsible for. I learned that a mothers influence is important in a young girls life. Felling guilt over something that you shouldn't is hard thing to face. Livi thinks that she's the reason her mother is in a coma, but she not. There is nothing she could have done to help her mother. Livi may have had a hard time during her mothers comas, but after it all ends she has learned so many things about life. In conclusion, I believe this book is an amazing life lesson on pages. It teaches you about being young and growing up. All Livi wanted was to fish and hunt, and she despised the fact that her mother and sisters do not have the same views as her, but that's okay because being different is always a good thing. I believe this is a great book and everyone should read it.
review 2: I happened to read this book after The Circle of Secrets. Thankfully it didn't spoil anything reading them out of order!Livie is harboring some awful guilt, guilt that binds her up inside like a giant, no-good knot. Typical of children in this age group, she thinks that the accident which caused her mama's sleeping sickness (coma) was her fault. After traveling the bayou to find the local traiteur (who might be the only one to save her mama with a healing spell) Livie has specific tasks to perform. But Livie learns that she might be the one who needs healing more than anyone.Filled with family dynamics, southern soul food that will leave you drooling, plenty of emotion and mystery, The Healing Spell will remind readers to look for the good in every situation.I highly recommend this book to middle-grade kids and readers! less
