review 1: A very fun book about a girl who, after performing a kind act, earns her very own genie. The wishes are endless, so she starts right away: new clothes, fancy jewelry, an "A" on her test...but soon she realizes that these new things aren't making her happy. So, what should she REALLY wish for?A cute and easy read, but I started to find it a big soap-boxy toward the end. Not sure, though, that a younger reader would mind that as much as I did.
review 2: Janna is the paragon materialistic teenager: all she cares about is the fact that she and her mother have no money and that she has to buy her clothes at thrift stores. When she randomly buys a hat for a homeless woman, she is surprised to discover that the woman is actually a genie, ready to grant her every wish
... more (with a few, small limitations). Janna ungratefully indulges by wishing for more things than can fit in her bedroom, before the genie Eugenie manages to convince her that possessing things will not bring happiness. A positive message, but it's shoved at the reader, and Janna is not very believable; her mother is extremely altruistic, and it is difficult to understand how her daughter could be such a selfish brat. The ending felt trite. less

This is a good book, but it took some effort to finish, since some of it was boring.
