John Sinclair Mystery
review 1: Cordelia Stapleton and John Sinclair are now in an intimate relationship as well as fellow explorers. While attending an event at the Museum, they find a series of robberies have taken place all which eventually involve them. A mummy one of the archivists is working on for the British Museum is stolen and the thief kidnaps Cordelia thinking she is the doctor who can help save the mummy on its travels to Egypt. John gets involved in running down the thief who stole a chalice that is said to have magic powers. From New York to Egypt and places in between, the two find themselves working together and apart to solve the mystery. It is a great book. I couldn't put it down.
review 2: Kitty Pilgrim provides plenty of twists and turns in this Indiana Jones style
... more mystery. Her hero is an archaeologist named John Sinclair, who is recruited to help recover stolen ancient art and finds a much larger conspiracy. Unfortunately, I felt the author provided no real surprises, like driving down a highway knowing there was a sharp turn coming because the road sign said it was just ahead. The historical and archaeological aspects of the book were well done. The books’ title refers to a real historical object of great beauty called the Sardonyx Cup and all of the information about mummies and art conservation was interesting. This was a good book, but the writing is too predictable to make it a great one. less
