review 1: Clumsily written, weirdly paced, and with some kind of bizarre racial politics going on. There was a good idea or two buried in there, and it was never quite so bad as to be unreadable, but in both tone and overall quality it reads like someone just filed the serial numbers off a mediocre Dragonriders of Pern fanfic they wrote in an attempt to grimdarken everything up. And it's that very specific subgenre of fanfiction where everyone misunderstands and abuses our poor mild-mannered protagonist who has only the best and noblest intentions and the world is so! Terribly! Unfair! Trauma, overwrought emotional outburst, trauma, outburst, protagonist's friends muttering "wow something seems off about him, let's basically ignore it and refuse to listen to him," more trauma. Like ... moreclockwork. So, hey, if that's what you're into, you're in luck. If it's not, well, see above....Last thing. I know it's been said before, but fucking "Darkheart?" Seriously? SERIOUSLY, NOW?
review 2: I haven't finished it yet but so far ill keep it really quick: the author needs to learn to use adjectives more and to make sentences more appealing: for example, don't say 'bran shook his head' say 'bran, in spite of his own beliefs, shook his head' (confusing but she writes sentences like this too often). But the plot has driven my to continue reading, and arren's character development is great. UPDATE: finished and I especially liked the end less

Stiff and repetitive dialog, so dull I skipped parts to get to the end.

In my opinion it was a bit simplistic, obvious, and lacking in depth.
