review 1: A couple of funny strips, a couple of sort-of-okay ones, and the rest pretty much follow this pattern:"I like butter.""You like butter?""I like butter.""CANCER!"Reading this strip on the web, where you get one every day or two probably helps to keep them fresh, but reading a hundred-odd in a row it becomes very quickly obvious that there is no tone or variation to the comic. Surprising, given four separate creators contribute, but the whole reading experience is very much like hearing the same single note being played on a drum, over and over and over again. A couple of stars for the genuinely funny entries, but nothing more.
review 2: Cyanide & Happiness is a webcomic, and as far as I'm aware it's been partially printed in the form of two books - Of which this... more is the first. I would say it's a somewhat offensive, non-PC, no-holds-barred onslaught of jokes, none of which are in particularly good taste. Why did I give it four stars? Ah, yes...I giggled like a nutter when I read this. Whilst some of the jokes pass me by, a lot of them are understandable to anyone my age and of my culture (i.e. 21 and English; I believe this comic is American or Canadian, but I could be wrong) as they pertain to less cultural matters - Abortion, death, suicide, murder, paedophilia and other controversial subects. The art often adds to this as there's some innocence to how basic the characters are, and on that note I think it's worth mentioning that they look brilliant in print. I'd guess some were redrawn just for the book.If you like your comedy uncensored, rude, and perhaps slightly outside of the box, then this is going to be absolutely perfect for you. I will, however, stress that this is not a book for those sensitive to anything controversial as you *will* be offended and you may even become incredibly disturbed by it. less
