review 1: This essay revolves around Schau's experiences of attending funerals that in the papers are signed "on behalf of friends", which means that there is no one who has either cared or had the opportunity to arrange the ceremony.The writing is simple and straight-forward, and I think this is what really got to me. This is an honest piece of art that deserves to be read. Though it is a quick read, it makes you think.
review 2: A short, but interesting book about a Norwegian musician/media-guy who gets interested in funerals where the state has to organize everything. What are they? What happens when no one shows up? The ads in the paper is signed with "On behalf of friends", which is the title of the book. There are no one to take responsibility, no family or close f... moreriends. Some times no one shows up to the funeral and the pastor have the speech with no one else than the organ player and the singer in the chapel. The author wanted to attend the funerals during the beginning of 2009, and as a rule he would not go unless there where three people or less attending. Then he would feel as an intruder. He feels better when the pastor tells about these people, that they had a meaningful life even with a small network. less
