review 1: Action packed and full of color, Big Rig Bugs is an enjoyable short read for all. It includes an array of busy bugs doing various interesting jobs. The bugs are compared to different pieces of machinery found at a construction site as they hurry to clean up a discarded sandwich from a careless construction worker. Big Rig Bugs is written with catchy rhyming words, "Clear that thicket, dozer cricket!" that can spark a whole English lesson on its own.*An activity with this book could include an activity about rhyming. Children could color and cut out various bug shapes with pre-printed words on them (one simple word per bug cut-out) and then you could have them hold up the correct bug cut out with the word that rhymes with a word that the teacher calls out. If the kids are o... moreld enough it could even be a friendly race.Cyrus, K. (2010). Big rig bugs. New York: Walker & Co..
review 2: What? This book illustrates the strength some insects and bugs have. A human litters by throwing his tuna fish sandwich in the field where the creepy crawly's come out of hiding to clean up the mess. The author portrays each insect with a particular duty. The millipede leads, the cricket clears the way, ants lift, sort, and sift, the beetle moves the mess, the pickle worm packs it tight, and the dragonfly hoist it away. So What? Children can see how some insects can work together to accomplish some pretty big jobs. Now What? This book can be used to illustrate to students that little creatures can accomplish big tasks. Students should persevere and never give up on improving themselves or the community because if tiny, creepy, crawly bugs have the strength to accomplish big things, then so does everyone else. less

A cool concept. Not as great as Chris Gall's Dinotrux but pretty darn good.
