review 1: This was a sad sequel to a great start. The author had a really great idea, original storyline, and interesting characters in the first book. I really had a hard time believing this was even from the same series. There's nearly no continuation of the storyline here. This entire book is mainly about the )rather poorly written and cliche) romance between the two main characters. It got to the point where I was skimming entire pages, hoping that I'd find more story in the next page or the next chapter. I don't think I'll be picking up the next book in this series.
review 2: I don't understand how this book averaged 3.89 but people, you need to give this series a go!!This is the second book from The Light Blade series. I feel that if I don't write something about t
... morehis book I am not giving Kylie Griffin the due praise she deserves for this well-written work. This is deserving of five stars, considering how well the author wrote this technically, creating a romance and plot that is original, compelling, well-balanced and explored. While it is normal to have a "save-the-damsel-in-distress" plot, here, we are presented more than that. There is a demon race we are brought to understand, the human race which struggle to survive against their prejudice and internal strife , and the race which was until recently "unknown", the Na'Chi.It amazes me how this book was written in so much detail yet it doesn't drag or bore. The idea of the story was simple, easy to identify with, yet it's the style of the writing that left me wondering how the author achieved this. Kylie Griffin managed to insert drama into simplicity, building the story through the eyes and stories of Varian and Kymora, so much so that you realise, this tale of IS so much more. I don't know about the other readers out there, but the romance in this book felt poignant and intense, I had to stop about twice for a breather. What's good is that the romance here doesn't compromise the building of the rest of the plot and characters at all. We may not be strangers to brooding heroes, yet Kylie Griffin cleverly brought forth Varian's compassion, fierce loyalty and honour, differentiating this hero with his Na'Chi qualities. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about him from Kymora's point of view as well. She is not your usual heroine but she is FANTASTIC! We are told of her journey, how she became blind to becoming the Temple Elect and now, a new journey awaits her. I absolutely love her character who despite her physical disability, doesn't let it incapacitate her. She is frank, warm, sharp, resilient, brave, and has such a good, good heart. If you're a sucker for fantasy romance, I'd highly recommend this book to you. There's no lack of excitement either. Romance, bravery, duty and honour to the people you love and want to protect. I'm hooked. less
